This online selling has been facilitated by google drive and PayPal. Online selling can be done directly to the customer’s websites, email, social media account, and many others. The direct link from the seller to the customer makes this process secure and reliable. some of the digital product that can be sold through this means include the coupon codes, mp3 music, PDF, software apps, graphics, photos, eBooks, and other downloadable files.
The workflow for selling online uses two main components the google drive which secures the hosting file and the PayPal which helps in payment processing. The other components that facilitate the whole process are google sheets and gmail.
Below is a guide on how to Sell Digital Products Online with Google Drive and PayPal.
Step 1
Create a PayPal app The very first step for one to sell a digital product online is by creating a PayPal app. This can be done by visiting developer.paypal.com where you will be asked to sign in and use your PayPal account to sign in and in case you don’t have one you can freely create a business account and sign in.
After signing in to your PayPal account, go the icon for my apps and credentials and then create a new app there. Ensure that you name the app that you have created any name only for internal use. Finally, PayPal will create credentials for the client for live transactions and testing in the following step.
Step 2
Create a PayPal web hook A web hook is a certain URL that is sent to your PayPal app in case a customer completes the purchasing process and has already made the payment. To create a web hook you should visit the digital goods.dev/copy and ensure you have copied the google sheet and paste it in your google drive.
When inside the google sheet click on tools>script editor and then to choose to publish click on Deploys web app and click the button for Update to finish creating your PayPal web hook. Finally, copy the Url. here you have to authorise your script once because it does all the operations for you.
Step 3
Configure App inside Google sheet In this step, you should now switch the ”configuration” sheet in the google spreadsheet and ensure you paste the web hook URL copied in step 2 and paste it in the ”web hook” field. copy and paste clients id together with the secret generated in step one(1) inside the respective field of google sheet as shown in the photo shown in the below link.
The other essential fields provided in the sheet such as choosing the default currency, specifying your brand name, the best shipping preference. Finally, in this step, go to digital goods menu (the digital goods menu is located near help menu) at the sheet and select the part for ”test PayPal configuration” in order to verify PayPal -google connections.
Step 4
Add your digital products At this stage the seller is supposed to add the types of the digital product he/she is selling accompanied by their prices. Therefore here you switch in the ”items” in the sheet and input the rate of the tax at the cell E1.
Here you can add a single of many products in the sheets because you will have to specify the price of an item in column D and the rest will be taken care of. The tax and the total amount is calculated automatically based on the tax rate as shown on the photo below.
Attaching files in the digital product platform requires you to highlight the file column and then click on digital goods option and then select attach drive files which will be sent to your client.
Step 5
Create a tax invoice template In this step, you just switch to ”invoice” sheet and therefore customise invoice template.
here you can use various formulas and styles just to match your brand and later the template will be converted into a PDF and lastly sent in form of a file attachment in the order confirmation email. The invoice template is as shown in the photo below –
Step 6
Testing the PayPal button This is the last step when selling a digital product online, here in this step their is creation of the order confirmation mail whereby you switch to the ”email” page and ensure you create a HTML template that will be forwarded to the clients/customers after completion of payment.
The emails contain basic information /details regarding the sent file. After everything is okay in this step, therefore, you need to lastly test your PayPal buttons after you have successfully added the product in the Google sheet before you finally do the embedding the buttons in the live website. you can do the testing by going back to the PayPal dashboard and chose in credit card generator the right sidebar and test it there as shown in the photo below.
If your integration is correctly done as expected, by going to the embed PayPal menu and copying the embed code for “live” mode and then pasting it on your website. The product will now be visible online and everyone in the world can see and buy . below is a sample email that will be delivered to the customers after the purchase.
